Alexis Ball scored the game's only goal and Shannon Adragna posted her sixth shutout of the season Friday night to lead the University of New Mexico women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Air Force at Cadet Soccer Stadium. With the win, New Mexico improved to 6-3-4 overall and 1-1 in the Mountain West Conference, while the Falcons fell to 3-9 overall and 0-2 in league play.
Ball took a crossing pass from Hannah Hand and headed the ball past Falcon goalie Ariana Green from eight yards out in the 70th minute. It was Ball's fourth goal of the season and Hand's team-leading eighth assist.
Green kept the Falcons in the game as she saved a point-blank shot just over a minute later by UNM's Samantha Bevis. Green finished the game with five saves, while Adragna had three. All three of Air Force's shots on goal were by freshman Bridgett Murphy, who had two solid scoring opportunities in the second half, but both shots from about 20 yards were saved.
New Mexico outshot the Falcons 20-5 in total shots, but could muster only six shots on goal. The Lobos also held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Air Force returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 12 as it hosts TCU at 1 p.m.
