Falcons Announce Team Awards

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. -The Air Force women's soccer team announced its 2008 team awards at the team banquet recently. Freshman forward Bridgett Murphy led the way by taking home Offensive MVP and Rookie of the Year honors and senior goalkeeer Erin Wallace was named team MVP.
Freshman defender Krystin Shanklin earned Defensive MVP honors. Freshman defender Amber Sikora earned the Most Improved Player award and senior midfielder Kristen Wolverton earned the Coach's Award.
One of the top freshmen in the conference, Murphy led Air Force with six goals scored on the season and was named second-team All-Mountain West Conference. Her six goals were the most by a freshman since Jennifer Rowland scored seven goals in 2001 and the most goals scored in a season since Beth Boyer scored nine in 2001. Murphy is also the first Air Force freshman to garner all-conference honors since Rowland.
Wallace capped a stellar four-year career at the Academy, logging 571 minutes in front of the net and posted a 2.36 goals against average. Her 4,372 career minutes rank third all-time and 181 career saves ranks fourth all-time at the Academy.
Shanklin started 16 of 17 games for the Falcons, recording a goal and an assist. Sikora started six of 17 games played, recording an assist. Wolverton started 14 of 16 games this year and started 33 of 54 career games.
