West Point, N.Y. - Unable to overcome a 7-0 first half deficit, the Air Force lacrosse dropped a 12-4 contest to Army Saturday afternoon at Michie Stadium. The Falcons fall to 1-1 on the season, while the Black Knights improve to 2-1.
Army rattled off seven straight goals in the opening half and looked ready to hold Air Force scoreless at the break before an unassisted score from senior Jack Parchman (Baltimore, Md.) with seven seconds remaining in the second period put the Falcons on the board.
The Falcons scored again just 10 seconds into the third period, as junior K.J. Landgraf (Cordova, Md.) notched a goal with an assist from Griffin Nevitt (Jr., Charlotte, N.C.). Army then regained its seven-goal lead with a pair of scores from Justin Bokmeyer just 10 seconds apart. A goal from senior David Rose (Allentown, Pa.), assisted by Brian Massa (Jr., Jamesville, N.Y.), cut the margin to 9-3 with six minutes remaining in the third quarter. However, Jeremy Boltus scored one of his four goals on the day with just one second remaining in the period, to give Army a 10-3 advantage going into the final quarter.
The Black Knights scored two more goals to start the fourth period, while the Falcons got back on the board as long-stick midfielder Dan Gnazzo (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) assisted Vinny Sandtorv (Fr., Centereach, N.Y.) with 2:34 remaining. There would be no more scoring in the contest, as Army took the 12-4 win.
Freshman Brian Wilson (Summit, N.J.) put forth a solid effort in goal, notching 12 saves on the afternoon. Army outshot Air Force 43-28 in the game, while neither team was particularly successful on the power play, with the two teams a combined 1-10 on man-up opportunities.
The Falcons return to action next weekend, March 8-9, when they travel to Denver, Colo., for the annual Pioneer Face-off Classic. Air Force will take on a pair of Ivy League foes, facing Penn on Saturday and Brown on Sunday. Both games will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Barton Lacrosse Stadium.
