FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Clearing the 13-foot plateau for the fourth time this season, Air Force sophomore Melissa Beerse picked up a 14th-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., on Saturday, March 15. As the first Air Force female to ever compete at the indoor national championship, Beerse recorded a mark of 13'1½".
Beerse, who is the Academy record-holder (13'6 ½") and the only woman in Air Force history to clear the 13-foot plateau, tied with Arkansas' Katie Stripling for 14th in the 18-competitor field. The height was the fifth-best mark of the day, as Montana State's Ellie Rudy won the meet with a clearance of 14'1¼".
With the indoor season now complete, Air Force opens the outdoor season next weekend (April 21-22) when they travel to Tucson, Ariz., for the Willie Williams Classic. The meet is part of the Falcons' spring training trip in Arizona, as they will conclude the weekend at the Arizona State Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., on March 28-29.
