Falcons Sweep Western Regional Semifinals

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Air Force boxing team swept through the semifinal round of action at the National Collegiate Boxing Association Western Regionals on Friday, March 28, in Santa Clara, Calif. Of the eight Air Force bouts contested in the semifinal round, the Falcons recorded seven victorious decisions and one win by a referee stopped contest.
Competing in their first regional event, junior Dean Chuva opened the night with a 112-pound decision over San Francisco's Matt Katekaru, while classmate Harvey White decisioned Cal's Aaron Fung at 125 pounds.
Senior Brian Navin earned a victory over Luc Mai of San Francisco in the 139-pound weight division, as the referee stopped their contest in the second round. Junior Nathan Liptak defeated San Jose State's Armando Cervantes in the 147-pound bout, while senior Daryn Nelson earned the judges' decision over Luis Sierra of host school Santa Clara in the 156-pound bout.
Senior Clifford Moore decisioned Nevada's Francisco Torres in a 165-pound bout, while junior Lucas Gagliardi defeated Jason Crocco of UNLV by decision in the 175-pound weight class. Fellow junior Boyce Loomis closed out the night with a 185-pound decision over Ramzy Eldabbagh of San Jose State.
Air Force concludes the NCBA Western Regionals tomorrow (March 29) with the 12 final bouts. Action begins at 7 p.m. (PST), in Santa Clara, Calif.
