Air Force Concludes First Day of Cal Invitational

AZUSA, Calif. - Five members of the Air Force track and field team concluded the first day of action at the Mt. SAC/California Invitational Decathlon and Heptathlon on Wednesday, April 16, in Azusa, Calif. The Falcons are currently led by junior Skylar Morgan, who is currently ranked 10th in the 26-competitor decathlon after the first five events.
Morgan combined for 3,402 points after the opening day. Contributing to that score were times of 11.53 in the 100-meter dash and 52.92 in the 400-meter dash. He also recorded a height of 6'1½" in the high jump and distances of 21'6¼" in the long jump and 37'6¾" in the shot put.
Freshman Noah Palicia is currently 20th with 3,012 points, while classmate Philip Rancourt is 24th with 2,769 points. Palicia recorded times of 11.71 in the 100-meter dash and 49.92 in the 400-meter dash, while earning marks of 18'2¼" in the long jump, 28'8¼" in the shot put and 5'8¾" in the high jump. Rancourt cleared 5'4¼" in the high jump, totaled distances of 18'9¼" in the long jump and 32'9¾" in the shot put. He also clocked a 100-meter time of 11.76 and a 400-meter time of 55.74.
After four events of the women's heptathlon, sophomore Danielle McCarty is currently ranked 25th with 2,561 points, while freshman Katherine Higdon is 33rd with 2,150 points. McCarty clocked times of 15.82 in the 100-meter hurdles and 27.13 in the 200-meter dash. She also cleared 5'0¼" in the high jump and recorded a distance of 29'10" in the shot put. Higdon threw a 31'1" in the shot put, cleared 4'8¾" in the high jump and recorded times of 17.27 in the 100-meter hurdles and 29.13 in the 200-meter dash.
The men's decathlon concludes tomorrow with the 110-meter hurdles, discus throw, pole vault and javelin throw, while the women's heptathlon will participate in the long jump, javelin throw and 800-meter run.
