Falcons Earn Two Top-10 Finishes in Cal Decathlon

AZUSA, Calif. - Highlighted by top-10 finishes from freshman Noah Palicia and junior Skylar Morgan, the Air Force multi-event athletes wrapped up an impressive day of action at the California Invitational Decathlon/Heptathlon in Azusa, Calif.
Palicia, who entered the day in 20th, had a stellar day of action, moving up 14 spots to finish sixth with 6287 points. Contributing to his score was times of 15.38 in the 110-meter hurdles and 4:28.13 in the 800-meter run (which he won). He also recorded distances of 89'5" in the discus and 156'11" in the javelin, while clearing 14'7¼" in the pole vault.
Morgan remained in 10th-place, posting a total of 6155. He clocked 15.42 in the 110-meter hurdles and 5:07.65 in the 800-meter run, while clearing 11'11¾" on the pole vault. Morgan also earned distances of 90'4" in the discus and 144'4" In the javelin. Freshman Philip Rancourt finished 20th with a tally of 5200 points. Rancourt clocked a time of 17.58 in the 110-meter hurdles, before posting marks of 98'3" in the discus, 13'3½" in the pole vault and 136'4" in the javelin. Rancourt closed out the day with a time of 5:49.91 in the 800-meter run.
Sophomore Danielle McCarty finished 25th with a total of 4138 points. Contributing to her score was a time of 2:23.00 in the 800-meter run, as well as distances of 67'10" in the javelin and 15'7" in the long jump. Freshman Katherine Higdon placed 32nd with an even 3000 points. Higdon recorded distances of 52.01 in the javelin and 13'4 ¼" in the long jump, before concluding the afternoon with a time of 3:05.87 in the 800-meter run.
Palicia, Morgan and McCarty will travel to Louisville, Ky., to meet up with the rest of the squad for the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational. The javelin throw takes place tomorrow (April 18), while the rest of the competition is slated for Saturday, April 19.
