Eight Regional Marks Highlight Falcons' Meet at Louisville

LOUSIVLLE, Ky. - Highlighted by eight regional qualifying marks, the Air Force track and field team wrapped up competition this afternoon (April 19) at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational in Louisville, Ky. With four regional marks, the men posted a 2-1 record in dual meet action, while the women finished 1-2 with four marks and one all-time record book incursion.
With a 2-1 record, the men finished second of the four-team competition. Air Force defeated East Tennessee State (0-3) by a wide 119-47 margin, while edging out Indiana State (1-2) 96-92. The Falcons finished second to meet-winner and host Louisville (3-0), who narrowly defeated Air Force 95-91. The women (1-2) picked up a 71-57 victory over East Tennessee State (0-3), while dropping a 106-52 decision to Indiana State (2-1) and a 106-47 dual with host Louisville (3-0).
The men picked up seven first-place finishes, including a pair of victories from senior Travis Picou. Picou earned a regional qualifying mark of 21.16 to win the 200-meter dash, while clocking a time of 10.64 to take first in the 100-meter dash. Also from the track, junior Sean Houseworth won the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:51.59. Houseworth was one of two Falcons to finish within the top-three of that event, as senior Ian McFarland finished third in 3:54.41.
Air Force took the top three spots in the javelin throw. Freshman Connor Van Fossen won the event with a distance of 194'7", while juniors Harmon Gage (178'1") and Brad Bernard (169'6") finished second and third, respectively.
Sophomore Nick Frawley won the pole vault with a regional acceptance mark of 17'3", while classmate Dan Paladino took first in the hammer throw with a regional qualifying mark of 189'7". In addition, senior David Lissy won the shot put with a mark of 51'3¾", while also taking third in the discus throw with a regional mark of 172'9".
Air Force also accounted for four other top-three finishes. Junior Justin Mason finished second in the 3000-meter steeplechase behind a time of 9:26.89, while senior Devin Hart recorded a distance of 21'6¾" in the long jump to take third.
Joined by Picou, freshman Terry Robinson and senior John Payne, Hart ran a leg of the 4x100-meter relay team that posted a second-place time of 41.82. Payne and Picou joined classmates Jon Butcher and Kyle Meakins to pick up a second-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay (3:17.40), as well.
On the women's side, sophomore Katie Weber guided the Falcons to two of the top three spots in the javelin throw, as she won the event with a regional qualifying throw of 153'8". (Senior Tiffany Moore finished third with a distance of 121'5".)
Sophomore Sara Neubauer posted regional qualifying marks on a pair of events. She threw a 159'5" in the discus to take second and posted a distance of 47'5" to finish third in the shot put. Classmate Melissa Beerse cleared a regional mark of 12'7½" to finish second in the pole vault.
Sophomores Ally Romanko and Brittany Morreale finished second (4:35.03) and third (4:44.35), respectively, in the 1500-meter run. Romanko's time is the 10th-fastest in Academy history. Fellow sophomore Nicole Elliott clocked a third-place time of 15.57 in the 100-meter hurdles, while classmate Danielle McCarty took third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.42.
Up next for the Falcons are trips to the Drake Relays (April 23-26), the Jack Christiansen Invitational (April 26) and the Robison Invitational (April 26).
