Greg Stine Advances to NCAA All-Around Finals

PALO ALTO, Calif. - Senior Greg Stine posted a fourth-place performance of 87.200 in the all-around at the NCAA National Qualifier on Thursday, April 17, in Palo Alto, Calif. As the top all-arounder not a part of an advancing team, Stine earned the right to advance to the all-around finals of the NCAA Championships, which will be held tomorrow night.
Highlighting Stine's outing was a second-place performance of 15.650 on the still rings. Stine, who led the meet in that event until the sixth rotation, posted his second-highest score of the season - a mark just .050 shy of his Academy record.
He also set a career-high tally of 13.500 on the pommel horse and matched his personal-best score of 15.400 on the vault. In addition, Stine tallied marks of 15.050 on the floor exercise, 14.050 on the parallel bars and 13.550 on the high bar.
Four other members of the Falcons' squad also competed during tonight's qualifying session. Junior Josiah Loeser competed on the still rings (13.950) and parallel bars (12.400). Senior Brian Boardman scored a 14.250 on the vault, while sophomore Brennan Wolford and junior Jacob Schonig respectively competed on the floor exercise (13.800) and still rings (11.650).
In addition, freshman Aaron Zaiser competed in the afternoon session, posting scores of 13.550 on the floor exercise and 13.450 on the parallel bars.
Host Stanford won the evening qualifier with a team score of 363.850. Illinois (359.300) and California (357.100) finished second and third, respectively, to advance to tomorrow's team finals with Oklahoma, Penn State and Michigan. Minnesota (349.150), Iowa (339.850) and Temple (333.000) rounded out the teams competing in the second session.
The all-around finals begin for Stine tomorrow night (April 18) at 7 p.m. at Stanford's Maple Pavilion. In addition to the all-around, Stine will vie for a spot in the individual event finals on Saturday (April 19).
