Kevin Hawkins Advances to Regional Finals

LINCOLN, Neb. - Senior Kevin Hawkins picked up an eighth-place finish in the 800-meter run to advance to the finals of the NCAA Regional Championships on Friday, May 30, in Lincoln, Neb. Hawkins, one of 10 members of the Air Force track and field team to participate at the regional meet, clocked an eighth-place time of 1:50.42 to qualify for tomorrow's finals.
Sophomore Ally Romanko placed 11th in the women's 800-meter event with a time of 2:10.08.
Senior Travis Picou placed 14th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.24, while classmate David Lissy claimed the same position in the shot put with a toss of 52'7½". Junior Kellen Curry finished 14th in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.40. Senior Ian McFarland finished 15th in the 5000-meter run with a time of 14:20.57. Junior Sean Houseworth finished 21st in that race with a time of 14:39.92.
Back on the women's side, sophomore Sara Neubauer placed 27th in the discus throw after recording a toss of 110'11". Sophomore Melissa Beerse and freshman Rachel Simmons tied for 16th on the pole vault after failing to clear the opening attempt.
The Falcons continue action tomorrow (May 31) at the NCAA Regional Championships in Lincoln, Neb. In addition to Hawkins competing in the finals of the 800-meter run, Air Force athletes will also compete in the women's javelin, men's 1500-meter run, men's pole vault, women's shot put, men's discus throw, and men's 3000-meter steeplechase.
