INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Sophomore Nick Frawley and senior Kevin Hawkins were two of the 544 student-athletes selected to compete at the upcoming NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the selection committee announced this afternoon (June 3) from the national offices in Indianapolis, Ind. It will be the second appearance at the outdoor championships for both.
Frawley automatically qualified for the national meet with a third-place finish in the pole vault at last weekend's regional championships. Hawkins, who finished sixth in the 800-meter run, earned an at-large berth to the national meet.
Clearing the bar at 17'5" - his best clearance of the season - Frawley was just shy of his personal-best outdoor mark. Hawkins clocked an Academy record time of 1:48.62 to finish sixth in the 800-meter run, besting his own record (1:48.66) that he set last year in the regional preliminary meet.
The championships will be held in Des Moines, Iowa, at Drake Stadium.
The qualifying round of pole vault competition will take place at 4:15 p.m. (CST) on Wednesday, June 11, with the top finalists advancing to the championship round at 4:15 p.m. on Friday, June 13. Heats of the 800-meter run will take place on Wednesday, June 11 (5:15-qualifying), Thursday, June 12 (6:25-semifinals) and Saturday, June 14 (3:28-finals).
