The Air Force women's gymnastics team continues on the road this weekend, when it opens Mountain Pacific Sports Federation action at UC-Davis on Friday, Jan. 23. The Falcons and Aggies will meet at The Pavilion at 7 p.m. (PST).
MARK YOUR CALENDARS
The next home competition for the Air Force women's gymnastics team will now be held on Monday, Feb. 2. Due to scheduling conflicts with the University of Alaska-Anchorage, the meet was moved from its original date of Jan. 26. Action will still take place at 6 p.m.
SCOUTING THE AGGIES
In their last meet, UC-Davis tied for a second in a tri-meet that featured BYU and host San Jose State. The Aggies surpassed the 190-point mark for the second straight meet. Junior Tanya Ho has posted the team's top scores in three of the four individual events, as well as the all-around. Freshman Jennifer Mueller currently paces the team on the floor exercise. UCD boasts two of the top three averages in the conference in three events, including the MPSF leaders - Lida Gehlen (uneven bars), Mueller (floor exercise) - in two events.
IN THE RANKINGS
Freshman Jenna Dudley's average of 9.712 on the floor exercise is ranked fourth in the national rankings (USAG Division). That average is tied for second in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. Senior Abbey Rogers is ranked third on the balance beam (9.637) and fourth on the vault (9.625) and all-around (37.725). Dudley is ranked fifth in the all-around (37.550), while sophomore Lisa Wong is ranked fifth on the balance beam with an average of 9.450.
LAST TIME OUT
Collecting a score of 186.900, Air Force finished fourth at the Pittsburgh Invitational on Jan. 17. The Falcons finished behind meet winner New Hampshire, host Pittsburgh and Bridgeport. The Falcons improved their team scores on the vault and uneven bars at the quadrangular.
WE'LL BE SEEING YOU
Air Force will face Bridgeport and New Hampshire once more this season, as it travels to the Fox Run Invitational in Durham, N.H., on Feb. 14.
OLD AND YOUNG
Abbey Rogers, the club's lone senior, paced the Falcons on two events at the Pitt Invitational, while freshmen posted the top scores on the remaining events. Rogers increased her marks to lead the team on the uneven bars and balance beam, while freshmen Samantha Jones and Jenna Dudley guided the squad on the vault and floor exercise, respectively.
MOVING CLOSER
Competing in her hometown, Abbey Rogers scored a 9.725 to finish seventh on the balance beam at the Pittsburgh Invitational. That score is just .050 shy of her career-high total that she collected last year.
TAKING IT ON THE ROAD
In her first collegiate road meet, Jenna Dudley posted the Falcons' best individual finish of the night at Pittsburgh. The freshman tied for third on the floor exercise with a career-best score of 9.750. That score is a .225 improvement from her debut one week earlier.
WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE FALCONS
Air Force will return to the Academy on Monday, Feb. 2, for another conference match-up. The Falcons will take on the University of Alaska-Anchorage at 6 p.m., in the Cadet West Gym.
