Air Force Heads to Centenary for Dual Meet

The Air Force women's gymnastics team wraps up a busy week on Friday, Feb. 2, as it travels to Shreveport, La., for a dual meet with Centenary. The Falcons, who hosted a home competition on Monday, will be the first visiting team at Centenary's Gold Dome this season.
SCOUTING THE LADIES
The Ladies last competed at a triangular meet on Jan. 30, finishing third behind Southeast Missouri State and Southern Utah. Centenary tallied a 189.475. Courtney Hawkins leads the team on the vault and all-around, while tying for the best average on the uneven bars and floor exercise. This will be the first home meet of the season for Centenary.
TWO OUT OF FOUR AIN'T BAD
For the second time in four weeks, senior Abbey Rogers was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week. The Feb. 3 award marked the fifth time in the past three years that Rogers has earned the weekly honor.
LAST TIME OUT
The Falcons picked up an impressive 190.925-187.400 victory over Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foe Alaska-Anchorage on Feb. 2. Numerous career-best marks were set, while the team improved their season-best marks on the three of the four individual events, as well as the team total. Senior Abbey Rogers bolstered the Falcons' lineup with victories on the vault, uneven bars and all-around.
ALL-AROUND SUPPORT
Senior Abbey Rogers was the backbone of the Falcons' win over UAA on Feb. 2, as she won the vault, uneven bars and all-around. Two of her winning scores were personal-best marks, including an impressive 38.950 tally in the all-around. That is the Falcons' best all-around mark since the 2005 season. Rogers also tallied a personal-best mark on the uneven bars at 9.800.
UPPING THE STANDARD
Freshman Jenna Dudley improved her personal-best scores on the vault, balance beam, floor exercise and all-around during the Feb. 2 meet, while sophomore Brittany Dutton upped her marks on the uneven bars and floor exercise. Not to be outdone, junior Aftan Boudreaux and freshman Samantha Jones increased their scores on the floor, while sophomore Lisa Wong tallied career-high marks on the floor and balance beam.
DID YOU KNOW?
It took the Falcons until March 16 to cross the 190-point plateau last year. Incidentally, that score also came against Alaska-Anchorage. It was the first time since the 2005 season that Air Force had breached that mark.
WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE FALCONS
The Falcons will remain on the road next weekend, traveling to Durham, N.H., for the Fox Run Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 14. In addition to host New Hampshire, the Falcons will face Bridgeport and Yale at the quadrangular meet.
