Sean Houseworth Sets NCAA Provisional Time in 5000

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Senior Sean Houseworth clocked a NCAA Provisional Qualifying Time of 14:00.47 to finish second in the 5000-meter run, as the Air Force track and field team completed the first day of action at Notre Dame's prestigious Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
With his season-best time, Houseworth finished second only to Patrick Smyth, Notre Dame's four-time All-American. Houseworth, who is already the Academy's record holder in that event at 13:59.28, clocked a time that was 10 seconds below the provisional mark to the national meet.
The senior was one of three Falcons to compete in the 36-runner event. Senior Matt Williams finished 16th with a time of 14:35.69, while classmate Parker Cowles clocked in at 14:58.28 to finish 30th. In addition, the men's distance medley relay team picked up a second-place finish behind a time of 9:57.86.
From the field, junior Joel Nolan finished 13th in the pole vault with a clearance of 15'5¾", while junior Dan Paladino finished 16th in the weight throw with a distance of 53'3". Senior Ian Hurdle also competed in the weight throw, placing 25th with a distance of 49'4¼".
On the women's side, sophomore Katherine Ward clocked the seventh-best time in Academy history to finish 14th in a career-best time of 17:51.21. Junior Katie Lynch finished 26th in that race, crossing the finish line in 18:56.09. Fellow junior Sara Neubauer, the only other member of the women's team to compete this evening, placed 25th in the weight throw with a distance of 42'11".
Action concludes for the Falcons at the Meyo Invitational tomorrow (Feb. 7). The day is divided into two sections, the first beginning at 9:30 a.m., with the men's mile.
