Falcons in Third Place on Day One of Argonaut Invitational

PENSACOLA, Fla. - Led by junior Tom Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.), the Air Force golf team currently sits in third place at the Argonaut Invitational, hosted by West Florida at the par-72, 6,815-yard Pensacola Country Club. After the first day of action, the Falcons have a two-round score of 581 (+5) , just two strokes behind team leaders Virginia and Liberty.
Whitney sits atop the individual leaderboard with a two-round total of 135 (-9), six strokes ahead of his nearest competitors. His second-round score of 66 has been the lowest of the tournament so far. Meanwhile, next in the individual standings for the Falcons is senior Shaun O'Bryant (Colorado Springs, Colo.), tied for 12th place at 147 (+3).
Sophomore Kyle Bailey (Austin, Texas) is currently tied for 29th place after two rounds of action with a 150, followed by freshman Robert Belz (San Antonio, Texas), tied for 41st at 153. Meanwhile, Andrew Gibson (Sr., San Ramon, Calif.) rebounded from a rocky opening round and is currently tied for 55th place overall with a score of 158. In addition, freshman Caleb Leestma (Seabrook, Texas), competing as an individual, sits in a tie for 53rd place at 157.
The final round of the tournament begins tomorrow.
