Falcons Earn Four Top-Three Finishes at UIC Triangular

CHICAGO, Ill. - Backed by a first-place finish from senior Jake Schonig, the No. 15 Air Force men's gymnastics team collected four top-three finishes during a triangular meet with Illinois-Chicago and Nebraska on Friday, March 20. In the first of two meets this weekend in the Windy City, Air Force finished third with a team score of 325.300.
It was a very low-scoring meet for all three squads, as ninth-ranked Nebraska won the meet with a score of 340.200. UIC, ranked 11th nationally, finished second with a total of 334.200.
Schonig scored a 14.700 to tie for first on the still rings with Illinois-Chicago's Nikolai Korepanov, while freshman Joel Uptmor scored a 15.300 to earn second on the vault. Sophomore Aaron Zaiser posted a floor exercise score of 14.400 to tie for third with Nebraska's John Rusler, while freshman Jacob Houder placed third on the pommel horse with a score of 13.700.
In addition, Air Force gained seven top-10 marks. Uptmor tied for seventh on the still rings with a score of 13.650, while senior Josiah Loeser tied for ninth at 13.600. The Falcons finished fourth and fifth on the vault, as junior Brennan Wolford and Zaiser scored respective marks of 15.150 and 15.100. Zaiser led the team on the parallel bars with a ninth-place score of 13.300, while Houder tallied a 13.250 to place 10th. Junior Garrett Canter rounded out the Falcons' top-10 scores with a team-leading 13.000 on the high bar to place ninth.
The Falcons remain in Chicago for a dual meet with the Flames on Sunday, March 22. Action begins at 2 p.m. (CST) at the UIC Physical Education Building.
