Skylar Morgan Takes Ninth at California Decathlon

AZUSA, Calif. - Senior Skylar Morgan placed ninth in the decathlon at the California Invitational Multi-Events Meet on Thursday, April 16, in Azusa, Calif., while junior Danielle McCarty tallied a 19th-place score in the heptathlon. It was the season debut in the multi-event competition for both members of the Air Force team.
With 6,245 points, Morgan finished ninth in the 29-member competition. After entering the day in 12th place overall, the senior moved up three positions, highlighted by a second-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (15.16). He finished ninth in the javelin throw (152'10"), while narrowly missing top-10 placements in the pole vault (12'9½", 11th), discus throw (89'0", 12th) and 1500-meter run (5:10.61, 12th).
McCarty tallied a total of 4,302 points to place 19th in the 38-competitor event. Her best finish in the final three events came from the 800-meter run, as she clocked an eighth-place time of 2:29.18. She also recorded distances of 16'2¼" in the long jump (20th) and 75'5" in the javelin throw (32nd).
Action continues this evening (April 16) for six members of the Air Force track and field team, as it begins action at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif.
