Falcons Have Strong Showing at Pole Vault Summit

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Highlighted by a trio of top-two performances, select freshmen members of the Air Force pole vault team wrapped up an impressive day of competition at the National Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nev., on Saturday, Jan. 30. Cale Simmons won his section, while two others earned a runner-up finish in their respective groups.
Simmons won the third section of the men's collegiate pole vault competition with a career-best matching clearance of 15'7", while his twin brother Rob Simmons placed second with a height of 15'3". The brothers comprised of the top-two finishes in the 16-competitor field.
Competing in the first section, classmate Chase Cooper placed second with a career-best clearance of 16'8¾". That clearance, second in the 11-member field, is an eight inch improvement over his previous high and currently the third-best mark on the team.
On the women's side, fellow freshman Pia Goodman matched her personal-best clearance of 10'6" to place ninth in the third second of women's collegiate action.
Air Force will travel to Albuquerque, N.M., next weekend (Feb. 5-6) for the New Mexico Classic.
