Air Force Claims Three Wins in Army Showdown

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Air Force juniors Dan Starr, Casey Habluetzel and Mike McLain claimed victories as the boxing team concluded action at the annual service academy showdown at Army on Friday, Nov. 5, in West Point, N.Y. The Falcons picked up three wins in the 10-bout matchup. McLain was named the Academy's Boxer of the Week for his 185-pound victory.
Starr earned the Falcons first win, as he took a decision from Emmanuel Cisel in a 140-pound bout. Competing in a 172-pound contest, Habluetzel took a decision from Eric Gobin. McLain closed out the night with a victory over Jon Maddux at 185 pounds.
Seven other boxers competed against the Black Knights. Senior Michael Mizes lost a 138-pound decision to Langston Clarke, while sophomore Glenn Miltenberg lost a decision to Luis Clasty in a 150-pound bout. Junior Tyrus Korecki dropped a 156-pound contest to Johaney Garcia, while senior Ryan Curry was decisioned by Shawn Gray at 170 pounds.
Three bouts were stopped early. Freshman Denis Vorobyov's 180-pound bout with Josh Quintana was stopped by the referee in the first round, while senior Will Keuchler's 189-pound bout with Mikus Iaganius was stopped in the third round. Fellow senior Matt Coates was forced to retire in second round of his 202-pound bout with Andre Shinda due to a cut above the eye.
Air Force returns to action on Friday, Nov. 12, when it hosts another round of Friday Night Fights at 4:30 p.m., in the Cadet Gym Boxing Room.
