WOODLAND, Calif. - For the second consecutive week, Air Force junior Nash Mills was chosen as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week, the league office announced this morning (March 30). It is the third such career honor for Mills, who won a pair of USAG national titles and paced the Falcons to their first-ever team title last weekend.
On Friday, March 26, Mills tied for first in the all-around with a combined score of 85.450. During the first night of competition, Mills paced the field of 50 on the still rings (14.650), parallel bars (14.450) and high bar (13.950), while finishing within the top five on the vault. His victory in the all-around marked the third time in four years that an Air Force gymnast has claimed the USAG national title in the all-around.
Mills' meet-leading scores were instrumental in the Falcons' overall team victory. The meet marked the first-ever USAG championship title for the Falcons in the 23-year history of the meet.
The native of Coto de Caza, Calif., returned to the gym on Saturday, March 27, to win the USAG national title on the parallel bars with a score of 14.500. He also claimed USAG All-America honors on the still rings (13.650) and vault (15.400).
Mills and his teammates return to action on Saturday, April 3, when they travel to Norman, Okla., for the 2010 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships. The Falcons, who are ranked 12th in the GymInfo national poll, will take on conference foes from top-ranked Stanford, second-ranked Oklahoma, No. 8 California and No. 11 Nebraska.
