Air Force Runners Shine at Payton Jordan Invitational

PALO ALTO, Calif. - Highlighted by career-best performances from all three of its distance runners, Air Force wrapped up a stellar day of competition at the Payton Jordan/Cardinal Invitational on Saturday, May 1, in Palo Alto, Calif. Senior Ally Romanko (800-meter run) and junior Justin Tyner (3000-meter steeplechase) recorded the second-best times in Academy history for their respective events.

Romanko posted a career-best time of 2:06.29 to place third overall in her section of the 800-meter run competition. Romanko finished second among collegiate runners, clocking a time just one second behind the meet winner. Her time, a personal best by nearly two seconds, is the second-fastest time in Academy history.

Competing in the 3000-meter steeplechase for the first time this season, Tyner shaved nearly 19 seconds off of his previous best time to place 13th in the field with a time of 8:41.09. That time shot the junior from sixth to second on the program's all-time list. Tyner also collected his third Junior Class Record of the year, as he edged Bret Hyde's junior time by 0.01.

Sophomore James Walmsley also posted a career-best time at Stanford, as he finished sixth in the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:50.16. His time is an improvement of 1.16 seconds, bettering the time he first set in mid-April at the Mt. SAC Relays.

The Falcons are off from team competition until May 12-15, when they travel to Albuquerque, N.M., for the 2010 Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
