Tom Whitney Wraps Up Career at NCAA Regional

SANTEE, Calif. - In the final collegiate event of his career, Air Force senior Tom Whitney (La Quinta, Calif.) finished tied for 39th place at the 2010 NCAA Men's Golf Southwest Regional Championship, being held at the par-72, 7,360-yard Carlton Oaks Golf Course.
Whitney, one of 10 participants in the regional competing as an individual, shot a 4-over-par 75 in the final round to bring his tournament score to 226 (+10). Whitney ends his Air Force career as one of the most decorated golfers in school history.
A finalist for the Byron Nelson Award, Whitney was a two-time All-Mountain West Conference selection and two-time qualifier to the NCAA Regionals. He also holds numerous school records, including lowest tournament scores for 18 holes (64), 36 holes (133) and 54 holes (200), as well as lowest season stroke average (71.7, during the 2009-10 season).
Fifth-ranked Oregon finished first in the team standings at 870 (+6), while 10th-ranked Augusta State placed second with a three-round score of 880. Also advancing to the championship finals being held June 1-6 at The Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tenn., are California, Tennessee and UNLV, who tied for third place in the team standings at 886.
Meanwhile, Nick Delio of Cal State Northridge won medalist honors with a 3-under-par 213 to earn the lone individual spot from the Southwest Regional.
