Thomas Wilkinson Earns MWC Scholar-Athlete Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Air Force freshman Thomas Wilkinson was a named a recipient of the Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athlete Award, the league office announced today (June 30). Wilkinson, a native of Austin, Texas, completed his first year at the Academy with a 3.56 grade-point-average. Houder was one of 554 student-athletes to earn the league honor.
Wilkinson competed in every event at least once over the course of the season, while making several additions to the program's top-20 list. With a season-best score of 13.850 on the high bar during the second dual meet with Illinois-Chicago, Wilkinson debuted in a tie for 10th in the Academy record book. Wilkinson is also ranked 13th all-time on the parallel bars (14.000), 15th on the floor exercise (14.400) and 18th on the vault (15.050).
The freshman joins former Falcons James Hayes (2001-02), Aaron Jackson (2003), Patrick McAndrew (2002-03-04) and Brian Boardman (2007-08), as well as current team member Jacob Houder (2009) as members of the men's gymnastics program to be honored by the Mountain West Conference.
The MWC Scholar-Athlete Award is the highest academic honor bestowed by the conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in an NCAA-sponsored sport.
