Nine opponents that played in post-season tournaments last season, including eight in the NCAA Tournament, highlight the 2010-11 Air Force men's basketball schedule, released today by head coach Jeff Reynolds.
Air Force, coming off a 10-21 record last season, opens the regular season with three consecutive home games, beginning with UCCS on Nov. 14. The Falcons will then host Colorado College on Nov. 17 and Tennessee State on Nov. 20.
The Falcons hit the road for their first game away from Clune Arena on Nov. 24 against NCAA participant Wofford in Spartanburg, S.C. Two more home games follow, against Cal State Northridge on Dec. 2 and Evansville on Dec. 5 as part of the Mountain West / Missouri Valley Challenge Series. Those two games precede AFA's second road game of the season against Wright State in Dayton, Ohio on Dec. 8.
Two consecutive games at Clune Arena against North Carolina Central (Dec. 11) and NCAA Tournament play-in game winner Arkansas Pine-Bluff (Dec. 18) as well as a game at Northern Arizona (Dec. 22) lead Air Force into the Sun Bowl Invitational at El Paso, Texas, for the second consecutive season. The Falcons, who captured second place at the tournament last year, will play a pair of NCAA Tournament teams at the Don Haskins Center. Air Force will play Sam Houston State on Dec. 28, then tournament host UTEP on Dec. 29 before completing its non-conference slate at home against Florida A&M on Jan. 2.
Air Force opens its Mountain West Conference schedule against Utah at home on Jan. 5, followed by games against three of the top four MWC teams from last season. Road games at BYU (Jan. 8) and San Diego State (Jan. 19) sandwich a home game against UNLV on Jan. 15.
Defending MWC regular-season champion New Mexico invades Clune on Feb. 1 to wrap up the first half of the conference slate. BYU (Feb. 9) and San Diego State (Feb. 19) come to Colorado Springs during the second half of the league schedule and the regular season ends on March 5 in Albuquerque, N.M. against New Mexico.
The Falcons will appear on national television 16 times in 2010-11. Air Force will play 15 times on The Mtn., and once on CBS College Sports Network. Every conference game, with the exception of the contest at San Diego State, will be televised, as will the game against Evansville on Dec. 5.
The Mountain West Conference tournament, once again in Las Vegas, Nev., runs from March 9-12.
