On Sunday, the Falcons face 5th-ranked New Mexico at 2 p.m. in Albuquerque, N.M.The Falcons will be looking for revenge in each game as the Falcons lost to both teams at home last weekend. UNLV defeated the Falcons, 1-0, and UNM beat Air Force, 2-1. Air Force Drops Two at HomeThe Falcons fell to 6-4-1 overall and 0-2-1 in league play after losing twice at home last weekend. On Friday, Jose Mendoza scored the game's only goal in the 12th minute to lead UNLV to a 1-0 win, then on Sunday, UNM's Blake Smith scored his second goal of the game with 44 seconds left to beat the Falcons, 2-1. Junior Zane Dydasco scored the game's only goal for Air Force, his first of the season. Durr Still Near Top of National and MPSF StatsAir Force junior Kevin Durr is tied for second in the MPSF and tied for 15th nationally with six assists. Durr is also second in the league with 39 shots and tied for third with teammate John Melcher averaging 1.27 points per game. Meanwhile, Matt Underwood is second in the conference with 47 saves. Last Weekend's RecapsUNLV 1, Air Force 0Oct. 7, 2011 at USAFA, COJose Mendoza's goal in the 12th minute held up and Ryan Harding made seven saves to lead the UNLV men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Air Force Friday night at Cadet Soccer Stadium. With the victory, UNLV improved to 2-7 overall and 1-1 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, while the Falcons fell to 6-3-1 and 0-1-1 in league play.Mendoza scored the game's only goal at the 11:41 mark of the first half. Teammate Salvador Bernal sent a crossing pass into the box from the left side that Air Force goalie Matt Underwood stopped but could not corral. The clearing pass went right to Mendoza, who placed a 25-yard shot past Underwood into the top right corner.Bernal nearly made it 2-0 in the 21st minute after dribbling past Underwood, but his shot into an open net clanked off the right post. Air Force's best chance came in the 50th minute when sophomore Kevin Durr placed a direct kick towards the upper left corner of the net, but Harding knocked it away with his outstretched right hand, leading to one of Air Force's five corner kicks compared to two for UNLV.Each team took 15 total shots and Air Force held a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal. Bernal posted a game-high five total shots, followed by teammate Nick Marshall with four. Durr led the Falcons with three shots. The Lobos improved to 9-0-2 overall and a perfect 3-0 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, while the Falcons fell to 6-4-1 overall and 0-2-1 in league play.Smith opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the season in the 16th minute. He snuck past the Falcon defense and took a pass from Devon Sandoval, then made a move past a diving AFA keeper Matt Underwood and knocked the ball into the open net.Air Force junior Zane Dydasco evened the score with his first goal of the season in the 24th minute. He fired a shot that was blocked but came right back to him, made a few moves towards the center of the field and fired an 18-yard shot on the ground that snuck past UNM goalie Victor Rodriguez just inside the right post.Giovanni Rollie had a great chance to give the Lobos a 2-1 lead just a few minutes later but his shot hit squarely off the left post and play continued. New Mexico outshot the Falcons 9-5 in the first half and held a 4-1 advantage in shots on goal.The second half was a back and forth affair with both teams getting decent scoring opportunities. Smith took full advantage of his in the final minute when he took a centering pass from James Rogers and found himself open at the top of the box. His 18-yard shot found the top right corner for the deciding score.The Lobos owned a 19-10 advantage in total shots and had seven shots on goal, compared to five for the Falcons.
