USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Ten bouts highlighted the Air Force boxing team's afternoon on Oct. 14 with the second installment of Friday Night Fights . The Falcons had 20 boxers step into the ring of the Boxing Room, as sophomore Nolan Hebein was named the Academy's Boxer of the Week.
Hebein displayed strong conditioning during his 158-pound bout with Glenn Miltenberg, showcasing the time that he has been spending in the gym. Both boxers threw hard shots and stood toe-to-toe for all three rounds, before Hebein claimed the split decision victory.
Casey Habluetzel won 170-pound bout with Aaron Wurster by using strong combination punching and forcing the referee to stop the bout in the second round. Habluetzel was one of four Falcons that claimed victory before the final bell. Tyler Curlee (185-pound bout vs. John Munro) and Reggie Young (150-pound bout vs. Matt Honeycutt) both won the matches in the first round, while Trevor Enos earned a 160-pound referee-stopped victory over Roman Young in the second round.
A pair of freshmen displayed some outstanding boxing for six minutes, as Roy Taylor decisioned Michael Magtalas in a 130-pound bout. Taylor used his reach advantage and a good one-two combination to win the bout.
Andrew Munoz claimed a decision over Ethan Salgado at 143 pounds, while Dalton Miller won his 170-pound bout with Patrick Perez. Zigmas Polinauskas earned the judges' vote over Nathaniel Landecker at 176 pounds, while Tyrus Korecki defeated Mike Leland by decision at 160 pounds.
