Nine Bouts Highlight Special Round of Thursday Night Fights

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force boxing team hosted a special round of Thursday Night Fights on Oct. 20. The night featured nine bouts, ranging from 136 to 195 pounds, and only two that stopped before the final bell. Sean Cork was named the Academy's Boxer of the Week.
Cork defeated John Alora in a 152-pound contest, taking the judges' votes to earn the decision. Throwing excellent combinations, Cork was able to apply pressure for the three rounds and used a good body attack to slow his opponent down.
Will Petersen opened the night with a decision over Julian Gluck at 136 pounds. Using a stiff jab and constant one-two punch, Petersen was able to keep the aggressive Gluck off balance. Gluck was able to land several hard rights to the head, but Petersen overcame the blows and continued to score effectively.
In a bout between squadron-mates, freshmen Tramaine Barnett earned the decision over classmate Malcolm Price at 155 pounds. In a back-and-fourth contest, Barnett used a long one-two to outpoint his powerful punching opponent.
Mike Leland defeated Nolan Hebein by decision at 162 pounds, while Logan Brandt decisioned Harry Baumeister at 195 pounds. Blaze Dunn won his 166-pound bout with James Monk, while Kyle Gladney earned the judges' vote in a 160-pound bout with Alex Kim.
Two bouts were stopped early by the referee. Colin McConville won his 170-pound match with Joseph Hays when the referee stopped their bout in the first round, while Ethan Salgado defeated Miguel Martinez during the third round of the 142-pound bout.
Air Force returns to action next week, traveling to Detroit, Mich., to take on Army and Navy at the annual Service Academy Classic at the Detroit Athletic Club.
