Falcons Travel to Macon, Ga., for Brickyard Tourney

Brickyard Collegiate Golf ChampionshipOct. 7-9, 2011The Brickyard at Riverside | Macon, Ga. This WeekThe Air Force golf team travels to Macon, Ga., this weekend for the Brickyard Collegiate Golf Championship hosted by Mercer University at the par-72, 7,128-yard Brickyard at Riverside Golf Course. The three-day tournament is slated for one round each day beginning on Friday, Oct. 7 at 8:30 a.m. The FieldFifteen teams are slated to compete in this week's tournament. They are: Air Force, Mercer, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Augusta State, College of Charleston, North Florida, Colorado State, Mississippi, Chattanooga, Florida State, Gonzaga, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma and Texas-Arlington. Making the trip for Air Force will be Kyle Westmoreland, Andrew Hoops, Caleb Leestma, Robert Belz and Philip Colwell. Air Force Head Coach George KouryAir Force head coach George Koury is in his 10th season at the helm of the Falcons' golf program. After serving three seasons as an assistant under legendary coach Gene Miranda, Koury took over the program at the start of the 2002-03 season.Koury, a 1993 Academy graduate and former team captain and MVP, has helped the Falcons continue their dominance at the Service Academy Golf Classic, winning 14 straight titles at the event. In addition, he helped lead Air Force to the team title at the 2005 Falcon Invitational, marking the first time since the inaugural event in 1969 that the team won its own tournament outright. Last Time OutThe Falcons finished 11th at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate Tournament in Albuqueruqe, N.M. on Sept. 30-Oct. 1. Sophomore Kyle Westmoreland was AFA's top finisher, finishing in a tie for 7th place with a three-round total of one-over par 217. He tied his career-low round with a 69 in the second round. Junior Andrew Hoops finished in a tie for 55th place with a 13-over par 229. UNLV won the team tournament, while BYU's Zachary Blair won the individual title. Eisenhower Blue Course Named One of the BestIn its recent list of the Best Campus Courses, Golfweek has recognized the Eisenhower Golf Club - Blue Course as one of the best in the nation. The Falcons' home course checks in at No. 21 on the list and is one of just two Mountain West Conference home courses to be recognized (New Mexico's Championship Course is listed at No. 13).
