ANNAPOLIS, Md. - A second-half rally fell short as the Air Force women's basketball team fell to service academy rival Navy, 71-59, Monday evening at Alumni Hall.
Junior Alicia Leipprandt (Ubly, Mich.) registered a game-high 26 points and added eight rebounds to lead the Falcons, who drop to 3-4 on the season. Dymond James (Jr., Brambleton, Va.) added 13 points for Air Force, while Jade Geif led Navy with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
Air Force got out to a sluggish start, trailing 10-0 before Leipprandt put the Falcons on the board just under five minutes into the game. Navy extended its advantage by outshooting and outrebounding Air Force in the opening half, leading by as many as 20 points before the Falcons cut the margin to 40-25 at the half.
The Falcons came out strong in the second half, outscoring the Mids 16-7 over the first seven and a half minutes of the period, with Leipprandt notching eight points down that stretch. Air Force continued to battle back, eventually getting within two points, as a basket from Leipprandt at the 6:25 mark cut the margin to 55-53. However, Navy closed out the game on a 16-6 run to take the win.
The Falcons return home for their next two games, as they host the annual Air Force Classic, Dec. 2-3. Air Force will take on Jackson State in Friday's contest, while facing USF on Saturday.
