Falcons Easily Win at Springfield Triangular

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - With the third-highest team score in Academy history, the 11th-ranked Air Force men's gymnastics team easily won a triangular meet at Springfield College on Sunday, March 13. With four individual titles, the Falcons captured a total of 343.300 to win the team title over No. 14 William and Mary (338.800) and No. 15 Springfield (330.000).
Senior Nash Mills captured a pair of event titles, winning the parallel bars and high bar. The senior team captain scored a season-best 14.700 to win the parallel bars, while posting a 14.800 to take first on the high bar.
While Mills was the only Falcon to finish among the top six on the parallel bars, he paced Air Force to four of the top five spots on the high bar, as the Falcons improved their overall score on that event (57.800) for the second straight meet.
Freshman Colton Wulf recorded a career-best score of 14.600 to finish second, while classmate Mac Ritchie used a personal-best score of 14.400 to take fourth. Sophomore James Okamoto rounded out the squad's top-five finishers on that event with a career-high 14.000 to place fifth. Mills' score was just .100 off of his Academy record score that he set last weekend, while Wulf and Ritchie respectively posted the third- and fourth-highest totals in program history.
Sophomore Tory Brown won the vault with a career-best matching score of 15.900, while Mills and freshman Ben Zaiser tied for fourth with matching marks of 15.600. Zaiser's score matched his career-high for the third time this season. Sophomore Nick Owen rounded out the Falcons' first-place finishes, as he won the pommel horse with a score of 13.900. Freshman Patrick Duffy placed third on that event with a score of 13.500.
Air Force also accounted for four of top six scores on the still rings and three of the top six marks on the floor exercise. Mills was the runner-up on the still rings with a career-best 14.900 - the 15th-highest score in Academy history, while junior Devin Menefee took third with a score of 14.700. Freshman Tyler Huebner scored a personal-best 14.300 to tie for fourth, while used a career-high 14.200 to tie for sixth. Senior Aaron Zaiser paced the Falcons on the floor exercise, with a third-place score of 14.400. Brown tied for fourth behind a career-best score of 14.300, while Wulf tied for sixth with a mark of 14.200.
Wulf was the runner-up in the all-around with a career-best total of 84.100.
Air Force returns to the Academy next Sunday (March 20) for a dual meet with Washington at 1 p.m.
