PALO ALTO, Calif. - Air Force senior Justin Tyner clocked a career-best 8:37.54 to place 10th among 46 runners in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the Payton Jordan Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., on Sunday, May 1. Tyner's time, a personal improvement by nearly four seconds, is the second-fastest time in program history.
Competing in his first steeplechase of the 2011 season, the Air Force senior was second among collegiate finishers at tonight's meet. Tyner, who first moved into second on the program's all-time list with a time of 8:41.09 at Stanford last year, is only five seconds off of the Academy record (8:32.44) that Bret Hyde set in 1981.
Former Falcon Matthew Williams, representing the Air Force World Class Athlete Program, placed 21st with a time of 9:14.78.
The Falcons are off from competition until May 11-14, when they travel to Fort Collins, Colo., for the Mountain West Conference Outdoor Championships.
