So, I was at home in Sacramento, California for a few weeks, and it was a nice break away from the Academy. When I first got home, my family threw a crazy BBQ so I could see everyone and catch up. I looove my family and friends. I got to spend valuable time with my brother, Keith, before he deployed. Keith is enlisted in the Navy. He has been stationed in Fresno, so he is relatively close to home. Keith is 18 months older than me and has been active duty for 4 years, but when I graduate from the Academy, my big brother will be saluting me. Gotta love it. When you graduate from the Academy you are an officer. As grads, we will be in charge of the enlisted force--just a little FYI.
While I was home, I ate and ate and ate. My aunt Ruby made home-made enchiladas. Yum Yum!! Other than that, I was just hanging out with friends to catch up before all of us went back to school.
Also while I was home, I continued to work out for the upcoming season. Lifting, running, shooting, and sometimes swimming, were part of my weekday workouts. Meanwhile, back at the Academy, our freshmen were going through basic cadet training. I remember those days... I really enjoyed all of the courses in Jack's Valley. My favorite was the Obstacle course. When I went through, my flight commander was right there with me. That was both good and bad. It was cool because he motivated me throughout the entire course. It's like your coach running sprints with you, ha ha ha. But I also felt a little pressure to perform well because I didn't want him to get mad at me. I'm proud to say all of our freshmen made it through...congrats to the class of 2015.
I am now back at USAFA and it is time to get started. The junior class had their commitment dinner on Wednesday (August 3). That is where they commit to five years of service. We think of this as a job. Where else does a university place you in a job in your career field, after giving you 60 days of paid leave, making around $48,000 a year?? And on top of that give you the career starter loan at $35,000. The Air Force Academy sets you up for life!!
We started school yesterday. I know it's early, but we have a lot of days throughout the semester where there are no classes, when we have leadership conferences, etc. I can't wait to start basketball and get into our preseason games. We start conditioning tests and lifting next week. We also have open gyms as well. Busy Busy Busy!
Until next time, Peace.
