USAFA, Colo. - The Air Force women's basketball team began a new tradition on Wednesday, hosting squadron leaders in the Falcons' first-ever Field Day. The members of the basketball team sent out invitations to their AOCs (Air Officer Commanding) and AMTs (Academy Military Trainer) to participate in an afternoon of field day festivities.
The goal of the event was to help bridge the "Terrazzo Gap," building relationships between military leadership and their intercollegiate athletes. Players joined with their AOCs/AMTs, and divided between odd and even squadrons, took part in various field day activities, including a hula hoop competition, chicken toss and catch and chicken bowling. At the end of the afternoon, the AOCs/AMTs joined the players and coaching staff fo a catered dinner, giving both groups a better opportunity to get to know each other.
