The Air Force men's soccer team improved to 6-2 this season with a 3-2 victory Sunday over Central Connecticut State on the final day of the UNH Nike Fall Classic in Durham, N.H. Senior John Melcher, junior Kevin Durr and sophomore Brian Klazura scored for the Falcons, who have won five of their last six games.
The Blue Devils opened the scoring in the 12th minute with Reese Wilson's strike past AFA goalie Matt Underwood. Mamoudou Dioubate picked up the assist on the score.
Air Force answered in the 24th minute as Melcher scored his fifth goal of the season after taking a nice pass from Durr and placing a shot past CCSU keeper Anthony Occhialin. Durr then notched his fourth tally of the year in the 29th minute by firing a direct kick past Occhialin.
In the 43rd minute, Jesse Menzies launched a free kick toward the box and Dioubate redirected it into the net to even the score at 2-all. The first half was very even as CCSU outshot the Falcons 9-8.
The tie lasted only four minutes into the second half as Klazura delivered a header after a pass from Jake Jones to give the Falcons a 3-2 lead. It was Klazura's second game-winner of the season.
The Falcons open up Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play on the road at Denver next Saturday, Oct. 1 beginning at 7 p.m.
