Falcons Travel to Albuquerque For William Tucker Tourney

The Air Force golf team travels to Albuquerque, N.M. this weekend for the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate Tournament hosted by the University of New Mexico at the par-72, 7,350-yard UNM Championship Golf Course. The 54-hole tournament is slated for two rounds on Friday, Sept. 30 and the final round on Saturday, Oct. 1. Play will begin each day with a shotgun start at 7:45 a.m.
The Field
Sixteen teams are slated to compete in this week's tournament. They are: Air Force, Arizona, Arizona State, BYU, Colorado, Louisiana-Monroe, New Mexico, New Mexico State, North Texas, Northern Colorado, San Diego State, UNLV, Utah, UTEP, UT-San Antonio and Wyoming. Making the trip for Air Force will be Andrew Hoops, Caleb Leestma, Kyle Westmoreland, Robert Belz and Miguel Macias, making his first career varsity trip.
Air Force Head Coach George Koury
This fall, Air Force head coach George Koury enters his 10th season at the helm of the Falcons' golf program. After serving three seasons as an assistant under legendary coach Gene Miranda, Koury took over the program at the start of the 2002-03 season. Koury, a 1993 Academy graduate and former team captain and MVP, has helped the Falcons continue their dominance at the Service Academy Golf Classic, winning 14 straight titles at the event. In addition, he helped lead Air Force to the team title at the 2005 Falcon Invitational, marking the first time since the inaugural event in 1969 that the team won its own tournament outright.
Last Time Out
The Falcons finished 10th at its own Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational on Sept. 18-19. Junior Andrew Hoops was AFA's top finisher, shooting an even-par 216 in the three-round tourney. He finished in a tie for 21st place. Senior Caleb Leestma followed in a tie for 29th place with a two-over par 218. UNLV won the team tournament, while UNLV's Kevin Penner and Ball State's T.J. Carpenter tied for individual medalist honors.
Eisenhower Blue Course Named One of the Best
In its recent list of the Best Campus Courses, Golfweek has recognized the Eisenhower Golf Club - Blue Course as one of the best in the nation. The Falcons' home course checks in at No. 21 on the list and is one of just two Mountain West Conference home courses to be recognized (New Mexico's Championship Course is listed at No. 13).

Air Force travels to Macon, Ga., to participate in the Brickyard Collegiate Championship Oct. 7-9. The tournament is hosted by Mercer University.
