Falcons Claim Two Event Titles at Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. - Senior Devin Menefee and freshman Greg Chaput claimed event titles, as the Air Force men's gymnastics team wrapped up competition at Nebraska on Sunday, Jan. 22. The ninth-ranked Falcons tallied a score of 331.750 in a loss to the 10th-ranked Huskers (336.550) at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
Menefee scored a 14.600 on the still rings to better the field by .450, while Chaput placed first on the parallel bars with a score of 14.350.
The pair also paced the Falcons to three of top-five spots on the rings and parallel bars. Sophomore Ben Zaiser and freshman Gared Chapman finished fourth (13.700) and fifth (13.600), respectively, on the still rings, while senior Jacob Houder placed third (season-best 14.150) and freshman Josh Ramos took fifth (14.000) on the parallel bars.
Air Force had a strong showing on the high bar, taking four of the top-six finishes. Freshman Corbin Palmer improved his career-best score by over a half-point (14.400) to finish second on that event, while Houder scored a career-best 14.350 to place third. Junior Tory Brown tallied a season-high 14.250 to tie for fourth, while classmate James Okamoto placed sixth with a personal-best 14.100.
The combined score of 57.100 on the high bar is the third-highest total in Academy history.
Ramos paced the Falcons on the floor exercise, as he and Brown finished second (14.000) and third (13.600), respectively, with season-best matching scores. Zaiser recorded Air Force's best finish on the vault, as he placed third with a career-best score of 14.750. Okamoto earned the same placement to lead the Falcons on the pommel horse, as he scored a season-high 14.200. Chaput added a career-best score of 13.000 to finish within the half of the field on that event.
Air Force returns to the Academy next Saturday (Jan. 28), when it hosts Minnesota at 5 p.m.
