USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force Women's Basketball has released its 2014-15 schedule, announced today by head coach Andrea Williams. The Falcons play 13 regular season home games, in addition to an exhibition with New Mexico Highlands.
After a Nov. 11 exhibition with New Mexico Highlands, the Falcons open the 29-game regular season Nov. 14 at Bakersfield.
"We open up against a very tough WAC team on the road with Bakersfield," Williams said. "They pose a very athletic style of play, and at their place, should be a good indicator of our team's readiness to play."
Air Force has four non-conference home games, beginning Nov. 17 vs. Omaha and Nov. 20 vs. Weber State. The month of November closes out with Thanksgiving week road games at SIUE on Nov. 23 and at Army on Nov. 25.
"Coming home with two early games here at Clune Arena against Omaha and Weber State will be welcoming to us and our fan base!," Williams said. "Then we have a road trip that will challenge us at SUIE and Army. Playing a service academy rival is always an awesome experience. With the pageantry that goes with playing an academy rival, it should make for an awesome environment for us to play in. Army is coming off an NCAA tourney bid and should be very tough to face again."
After a Dec. 2 road trip to Northern Colorado, the Falcons host the Air Force Classic, Dec. 5-6. Air Force will take on Southern Utah Dec. 5 and Santa Clara on Dec. 6. The non-conference slate closes out with three road games. The Falcons travel to Denver on Dec. 8, Utah Valley on Dec. 11 and Abilene Christian on Dec. 20.
"Northern Colorado and Denver pose smart, very well coached teams and each season we come closer to coming away with a `W'," Williams said. "Our Air Force Classic brings us back home vs. Southern Utah and Santa Clara. We close out our non-conference slate at Utah Valley and Abilene Christian before semester break. Both will pose challenges with Utah Valley being a shooting team and Abilene Christian playing an up-tempo style that will challenge us."
Air Force will play an 18-game Mountain West slate, beginning New Year's Eve, hosting San Diego State on Dec. 31. After a road trip that includes a Jan. 7 game at San Jose State and Jan. 10 game at Colorado State, the Falcons return home to host New Mexico on Jan. 14 and Utah State on Jan. 17.
The Falcons travel to San Diego State Jan. 21 and Boise State Jan. 24. Air Force closes out January with home games vs. San Jose State on Jan. 28 and UNLV on Jan. 31. The Falcons open February with road trips to New Mexico (Feb. 4) and Wyoming (Feb. 7). Feb. 11 will see AFA host Boise State, before heading back out on the road for a Feb. 14 game at UNLV.
Air Force's final February home game is Feb. 21 against Colorado State. The Falcons head back out on the road for a Feb. 25 game at Nevada and a Feb. 28 game at Utah State. The final home game for AFA is March 3 against Fresno State.
"We have some great challenges again on the road - but look to use our depth and athleticism to finish games and get some wins," Williams said. "The four non-conference home games gives our fans a great look at our squad. The many road games will provide us with some experience playing away from Clune so that we can have success during our Mountain West run."
