
Air Force Defeats Omaha, 65-57, In Home-Opener

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force women's basketball knocked-off Omaha, 65-57, to win its home-opener Monday night in non-conference action at Clune Arena. Junior forward Missy Byrd led the way with a double-double, as the Falcons improved to 1-1 on the young season.
Air Force had three players reach double-figures in scoring, led by Byrd, who had a career-high 18 points to go with 10 rebounds for her second-career double-double. Senior guard Jimi Blagowsky scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds and senior forward Lindsey Lewis added 12 points.
The Falcons limited their mistakes and played good team basketball on the night. The Falcons committed just 10 turnovers, leading to just four points for Omaha (1-1). Air Force played solid defense, forcing 18 turnovers, leading to 13 points.
The Falcons had 15 assists on their 19 baskets. Freshman guard Cortney Porter and Blagowsky led the Falcons with five assists each. Porter had a solid all-around game, scoring nine points and pulling down seven rebounds.
Air Force got to the free throw line 39 times in the game, making good on 26 (66.7 percent).
Omaha (1-1) was led by Brianna Bogard and Sami Pawlak, who both scored 11 points. Center Kelly Taijhe added four blocked shots.
Air Force led for almost the entire game, as Omaha led just once at the 12:46 mark in the first half. The Falcons led 32-27 at the half and led by as many as 12 points in the second half.
Omaha got as close as five points with under three minutes to play, but the Falcons made several big defensive stops to turn back the rally.
Air Force returns to action Thursday, Nov. 20, hosting Weber State. Tipoff is 7 pm.
Notes: Freshman Cortney Porter made her first-career start at point guard...Air Force improved to 3-3 all-time vs. Omaha.
