
Air Force Drops Both Games of Doubleheader at Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. - Air Force baseball dropped both games of a doubleheader at Omaha Saturday afternoon at The Ballpark at Boys Town. The Falcons lost 9-3 and 3-1.
In game one, Omaha (8-8) jumped ahead 7-1 after two innings and rolled to the win. The Mavericks plated four runs in the first and three in the second. The Falcons scored one in the second and three in the fourth. Omaha added two in the eighth.
Omaha had 13 hits in the game. Shortstop Caleb Palensky went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and second baseman Clayton Taylor went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs. Maverick starting pitcher Zach Williamsen (1-1) pitched seven innings, striking out eight for the win.
Air Force (4-13) had eight hits in the game. Left fielder Tyler Jones went 3-for-4 with a run and RBI to lead the Falcons. Third baseman Noah Pierce added a hit, run and RBI and catcher Brian Sicher added a hit and RBI.
Falcon starting pitcher Griffin Jax (1-4) pitched six innings in the loss. Junior Ben Yokley pitched a scoreless seventh and freshman Travis Neubeck gave up two unearned runs in the eighth.
In game two, Omaha jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and held off a late Air Force rally for the 3-1 win in a seven inning game. The Mavericks plated two runs in the first and one in the third. Air Force scored its run in the sixth.
Marcus Ethen (2-1) held the Falcons to three hits in six innings pitched. Josh Bullock pitched a scoreless seventh for the save. Omaha had six hits in the game. Designated hitter Brett Bass had a hit and two RBIs.
Outfielder David Thomas had a hit and RBI to lead the Falcons. First baseman Spencer Draws had a hit, run scored and two walks. Second baseman Adam Groesbeck and designated hitter Adam Blankenship also had hits for the Falcons.
Bo Wilson (0-1) took the loss in his first-career start. Wilson struck out three in 4.1 innings of work. Sophomore Steven Trojan pitched 1.2 scoreless innings in relief.
The Falcons return to action Tuesday, March 18 beginning a two-game set at Kansas State.
