USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - For the sixth straight year, the Air Force men's gymnastics team took to the streets to participate in the annual Susan G. Koman Race for the Cure. The Falcons joined thousands of other participants that took part in the 5K event around Denver on Sunday, Sept. 28.
The Falcons began participating in the Race for the Cure in 2009, as a way to promote team unity and support a cause that affects members of the squad's friends and loved ones. This year, the Falcons raised $1,000 for the cause, which is one of several community service projects that the men's gymnastics team has participated in during the fall.
"It's exciting to continue a great tradition," senior Greg Chaput said. "It allows the team to not only bond with each other, but it also gives us an opportunity to give back and appreciate the little things we have in life. This is the Class of 2015's fourth Race for the Cure and it's obvious, in just four years, how far it has come. It's exciting to see the growth in people participating in such a good cause every year. We also can graduate knowing that this tradition will continue as long as the program is around and, hopefully, future classes will see growth as well."
Denver's Race for the Cure is one in a series of races that take place every year around the world. The annual events help raise significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrate breast cancer survivorship and honor those who have lost their battle with the disease.
