Air Force Finishes Tied for 13th at Mark Simpson Invitational

ERIE, Colo. - Backed by a top-15 finish from senior Blake Edwards, the Air Force golf team wrapped up competition at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational this afternoon (Sept. 30) in Erie. The Falcons, who shot an 11-over par score of 299 in the second round, finished the weather-shortened tournament with a 17-over 593 to tie with Northern Colorado for 13th.
Edwards shot an even-par 72 during the second round of competition to finish one-under to tie for 15th with a two-round score of 143. Sophomore Sunwoo Choi shot a 78 on the second 18 to tie for 45th with a score of five-over par score of 149. Freshman Sutton Farmer completed his first tournament with a second-round score of 74 to post a six-over total of 150 and tie for 52nd, while sophomore Brenden Bone tied for 58th with an overall score of 151 following a second round mark of 75. Freshman Dane Hankamer rounded out the Falcons' team, hitting a 78 on the final 18 to finish tied for 74th with two-day total of 154.
Two freshmen - Todd Millard and J.D. Kiesewetter - competed as individuals at Colorado National Golf Course. Millard shot a 78 during the second 18 to finish in a tie for 39th with an overall total of 148, while Kiesewetter tied for 70th with a 153 after posting the same second-round score (78).
Due to weather stoppages yesterday, the tournament was condensed to 36 holes, with the second round of play being split between both days. Colorado won its home invitational, shooting a 20-under par score of 556, while the Buff's David Oraee won the individual title with a 13-under 131.
The Falcons return to action on Monday, Oct. 13, when they travel to Rockville, Md., for the two-day Maryland Invitational at Woodmont Country Club.
