Last Time Out
Air Force women's basketball (1-14, 0-4 Mountain West) dropped a 62-42 contest at Colorado State (11-4, 3-1 MW) in Mountain West action Saturday afternoon at Moby Arena. Freshman Cortney Porter erupted for a game-high 25 points, hitting seven three-point baskets for the Falcons.
After losing by 60 points at CSU, 88-28, a season ago at Moby, the Falcons closed the gap significantly in the following game. Colorado State had four players reach double figures in scoring, led by Hanne Mestdagh and Alana Aria, who scored 12 points each.
Porter made 9-of-21 shots on the day, making 7-of-14 from three-point range for the highest scoring game by a Falcon so far this season. The freshman from Ogden, Utah, also led the Falcons with four assists and three steals.
Senior Lindsey Lewis added nine points and eight rebounds. Senior Angela Johnson had eight rebounds and junior Madeleine Philpot and freshman Dee Bennett had seven rebounds for the Falcons.
Last Meeting vs. New Mexico
A late second-half rally fell short, as the Air Force women's basketball team fell to New Mexico, 76-62, March 4, 2014 in Clune Arena.
Jimi Blagowsky registered a game-high 20 points to lead the Falcons, while Missy Byrd added 14 points. Also scoring in double figures for Air Force was senior Camille Thompson, who finished with 11 points and five assists in her final game in Clune Arena.
The Falcons trailed by as many as 19 points with nine minutes remaining in the second half, but Air Force battled back, cutting the margin to 67-58 at the 3:16 mark with a three-point play by Byrd. However, New Mexico pushed its advantage back into double figures by taking the ball inside the paint and getting to the foul line.
Air Force held a lead in the first two minutes of the game, with Thompson scoring the Falcons' first four points, but the Lobos went on an 8-0 run to take the advantage. The contest was tied twice more in the opening half, but New Mexico went into the locker room with a 32-28 lead.
The Lobos dominated in the paint, scoring 52 of their points on the inside. New Mexico also had a 41-26 advantage on the boards, and knocked down 18-of-24 free throws for the game.
Khadijah Shumpert was the leading scorer for New Mexico, finishing with 19 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
