
Falcons Wrap Up First Day of Holiday Inn Invitational

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Air Force track and field team opened competition at the Holiday Inn Invitational this evening (Jan. 16) in Lincoln, Neb. Highlighting the night was a one-two finish in the unseeded pole vault and three scoring finishes in the weight throw.
The Falcons collected three scoring finishes in the weight throw. Junior Spencer Baldwin and sophomore Darby Maier finished third (59'1¼") and sixth (career-best 55'4¼"), respectively, in the men's event, while sophomore Cydnee Reese placed sixth in the women's event with a throw of 47'1½".
Backed by a career-best clearance from sophomore Kyle Pater, Air Force swept the top-two placements of the men's unseeded pole vault. Pater won the event with a mark of 16'1¼", while classmate Tyler Ginger finished second with a season-best clearance of 15'7¼".
It was a light day on the track for the Falcons, with athletes just taking part in two sprint preliminaries. Freshman Jamiel Trimble II clocked a career-best time of 8.35 to finish fourth in the qualifying round of the 60-meter hurdles, while seniors Edmond Duvall and Evan McDowell also qualified to tomorrow's semifinals after placing eighth (8.46) and 14th (8.86), respectively. Fellow senior Sierra Schepper advanced to the second round of the women's hurdles after clocking a 14th-place time of 9.61.
The Falcons continue competition at Nebraska's Holiday Inn Invitational tomorrow (Jan. 17) in Lincoln. The second day of action begins at 11:00 a.m., with the women's shot put, men's triple jump, women's high jump and the semifinals of the women's 60-meter hurdles.
