
Air Force Concludes Action at Holiday Inn Invitational

LINCOLN, Neb. - Backed by nine scoring finishes, the Air Force track and field team wrapped up competition at the Holiday Inn Invitational this afternoon (Jan. 17) in Lincoln, Neb. Falcons earned multiple scoring finishes in the pole vault and shot put, as the men finished third and the women placed eighth in the Division I team standings.
Backed by a first-place finish from junior Dylan Bell, Air Force claimed two of the top-four finishes in the pole vault. Bell cleared 17'5" to win his second event title in three meets, while senior Joey Uhle finished fourth with a height of 16'7¼". The also men captured a pair of top-five finishes in the shot put, as junior Grant Hamilton and sophomore Darby Maier finished second (58'7½") and fifth (55'6¼"), respectively.
The men earned two additional scoring finishes in the field events, as sophomore Taylor Smith placed sixth in the high jump (6'8¼") and freshman John Reynolds took seventh in the triple jump (46'8¾"). On the track, the men picked up a third-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay, as the quartet of freshman Tyler Koss, sophomore Garrett Newman, freshman Tyler Berson and senior Siotame Latu clocked a time of 3:21.06 in their first relay of the season.
The women earned a pair of top-eight finishes in the field events, while adding to the Falcons' number of scoring placements in the pole vault and shot put. Junior Riley Vann crossed the 12-foot bar for the second time in three meets (12'0¾") to finish seventh in the pole vault, while classmate Katelyn Holland recorded a distance of 43'10½" to earn the same finish in the shot put.
The men tallied 47 points to finish third in the Division I team standings. Host and sixth-ranked Nebraska won the meet with 216 points, while No. 19 Iowa State finished second with 49 points. Air Force finished just two points behind (47), while South Dakota (39), Oklahoma State (32), Drake (28) and Northern Colorado (26) rounded out the seven-team field.
The women placed eighth with seven points. Nebraska won the meet with 188 points, while South Dakota (123) and Iowa State (69) rounded out the top three. Northern Colorado (52), No. 13 Oklahoma State (44), Drake (31), Omaha (23) and Air Force (7) rounded out the full eight-team field of Division I squads.
The Falcons return to the Academy next week, as they host the 25th Air Force Invitational at the Cadet Field House Indoor Track. The three-day meet begins Thursday, Jan. 22, with the heptathlon and pentathlon competition.
