USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Following a pair of top-three finishes at last weekend's Rocky Mountain Open, senior gymnast Nick Gaudlip was named the Air Force co-Athlete of the Week on Monday, Jan. 19. It is the second such award for the Colorado Springs native.
Gaudlip finished third on the floor exercise and high bar, while adding a top-10 finish on the parallel bars, during the Falcons' season-opening competition. He scored a 14.850 to take third on the high bar and debut in that same placement on the Rocky Mountain Open's all-time scoring list in that event. He also recorded that score to tie for third on the floor exercise, while tallying a 14.250 to place 10th on the parallel bars.
One of four top-three finishers, he helped the 11th-ranked Falcons to a second-place finish in the five-team meet and the squad's highest season-opening score ever (427.150). Air Force's runner-up finish also included a seven-point victory over No. 10 Nebraska, a win which marked just the fourth time in 33 meetings between the two schools that Air Force has defeated the Huskers in competition.
Gaudlip, who shared the athletic department's weekly award with the rifle team's Meredith Carpentier, and the rest of the Air Force squad returns to action this Saturday (Jan. 24), when it travels to Minnesota to face the Gophers in a dual meet at the Sports Pavilion.
