Air Force and Sacred Heart skated to a 1-1 overtime tie in an Atlantic Hockey Conference game, Friday, Nov. 21, at the Milford Ice Pavilion in Milford, Conn.
Air Force (3-6-2, 2-3-2 AHC) drew first blood as defenseman Johnny Hrabovsky scored his third of the season. Jordan Himley fed Kyle Mackey who took a shot that was saved but Hrabovsky put back the rebound at 9:18 of the first period. For the third time in the last three games, the Falcons allowed a goal in the final minute of a period. Sacred Heart's Kory Kennedy scored on the rush with 20 seconds in the first period to tie the game at 1-1.
Neither team scored in the final two periods or in overtime.
"The way this game went, it was probably should have ended in a tie," head coach Frank Serratore said. "We got the first one and then gave another one up late in the period. We have to quit doing that. It just kills us. Then we gave them some good chances on our own power play and Shane (Starrett) was good for us. (Sacred Heart) came at us hard and we needed to match their intensity. They play so aggressive. We knew they would, they scored three shorties on us last year in two games. All in all, we came into a tough building and got a point. We'll re-rack them tomorrow night and see what happens."
Air Force outshot Sacred Heart, 26-22, in the game. Shane Starrett made 21 saves for the Falcons while Brett Magnus made 25 for the Pioneers (5-5-2, 4-2-1 AHC). Air Force was 0-for-5 on the power play while SHU was 0-for-3.
The same two teams conclude the two-game series on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 7;05 pm ET in Milford, Conn.
