Scouting Furman
Furman is 1-3 overall this season. Two of the Paladins's losses are to the top teams in the nation, No. 4 North Carolina and No. 1 Denver. Last week, Furman earned its first win of the season, 9-8, over Canisius, in the Frontier Airlines Classic at the University of Denver. Kenny Meinsen leads the team with 10 goals and 11 points. Jonah Moore also has 11 points on six goals and five assists.
Last Season vs. Furman
With a dominant offensive performance in the opening half, Air Force beat Furman, 15-6, last season. Erik Smith tallied three of his career-high-tying four goals in the opening period to lead the Falcons' offense, while classmates Kyle Cassady, Marcus Walker and Mike Crampton added two goals each. Air Force led 8-1 at the end of the first quarter and held a 12-1 lead at the half. Furman had a 29-23 edge on ground balls for the game, and outshot the Falcons, 32-28 for the game, and 18-8 in the second half alone. The Paladins also won the battle at the face-off X, taking 14-of-24 draws. However, the Falcons recorded 12 saves, compared to just six for Furman, and held the Paladins to 2-of-5 on the EMO
Inside the Numbers
Freshman Chris Walsch leads the team with 12 goals and 15 points this season. Walsch is tied for 21st in the nation in goals per game and tied for the fourth most by a freshman. Senior Keith Dreyer leads the team with five assists and is second with eight points. Senior Kyle O'Brien and freshman Josh Radjenovich are tied for the team lead with 12 ground balls. Radjenovich leads the team with 18 faceoffs won.
Between the Pipes
Junior Doug Gouchoe has started all four games for the Falcons and has a .494 saves percentage with 40 saves this season. He made a season high 14 saves, while allowing just six goals, to lead the Falcons to a 13-6 win over Canisius, Feb. 22.
