
Air Force beat Furman, 6-4, in lacrosse

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force overcame a first-half deficit to defeat Furman, 6-4, in a college lacrosse game Saturday, Feb. 28, in Greenville, S.C. Air Force improved to 2-3 overall while Furman fell to 1-4. Nick Hruby led the Falcons with two goals.
Furman scored two goals in the first three minutes of the game as Robbie Betchley scored at 14:14 and Kenny Meinsen scored at 12:22 for a 2-0 Paladin lead. Air Force came back to tie the game on goals by Nick Hruby, late in the first quarter, and Keith Dreyer, in the second. Furman's Scott Primeau scored at 5:51 of the second quarter for a 3-2 lead at the half.
Air Force freshman Chris Walsch tied the game at 6:31 with his team-leading 13th goal of the season. Nick Hruby's second of the game gave the Falcons a 4-3 lead at 4:54 of the third. Furman tied the game on Betchley's second of the game at 1:04 of the third.
The Falcons took a 6-4 lead with two quick goals in the fourth quarter. James Burke scored at 11:15 and Nate Hruby scored at 10:11. Air Force then held on to the two-goal lead for their second win of the season.
Air Force won the battle of ground balls (24-14) and faceoffs (11-2). Air Force also outshot Furman, 29-22. Falcon junior Doug Gouchoe made eight saves.
The Falcons travel east for a pair of games next weekend. Air Force faces Vermont, March 7, in Bethesda, Md., and VMI, March 8, in Alexandria, Va.
