
Women's tennis opens Mountain West play at home

This Week: Air Force returns to action this week following a two-week break. The Falcons open Mountain West play on Sunday, March 29, by hosting Fresno State at 10 a.m. Air Force then hosts Metro State at 3:30 p.m. that day in the final non-conference match of the season.
Last Time: Air Force split a pair of matches in Louisiana. The Falcons lost to McNeese State, 4-0, before beating Louisiana-Lafayette, 4-0, March 7, in Lafayette, La.
Win Streak: Air Force has won 11 of its last 13 matches overall. The Falcons are have won six straight home matches after dropping its home opener against Colorado.
20 Wins: Sophomore Chloe Forlini leads the Falcons with a 28-6 overall record, including a 16-2 mark this spring. Forlini has also topped the 20-win mark in doubles and leads the team with a 22-11 mark. She is 11-6 this spring. Sophomore Tracy Landram has a 23-6 overall singles mark, including a team-best 15-1 mark this spring. Landram is 21-8 in doubles, including an 11-6 mark in the spring. Freshman Carley Hatcliff joins them in the 20-win club in doubles with a 21-12 overall mark. She is 9-5 this spring.
Head Coach Kim Gidley: Kim Gidley is in her 17th season as head coach of the women's tennis team at the Air Force Academy. The first civilian head coach in the 37-year history of the program, Gidley became the winningest coach in the history of the program in 2003 with her 76th victory. She recorded her 100th career victory during the 2005-06 season against South Dakota State and her 200th against Seattle University last season. She has a 226-219 career record. Gidley led the Falcons to a 17-9 record last season, the first time since moving to Division I in 1996 that the team has had five straight winning seasons. Gidley belongs to several professional tennis organizations, including the United States Professional Tennis Association. She has been honored twice by the USPTA as the Intermountain College Coach of the Year, most recently in March 2008. Among her other awards, she received the USTA/ITA National Community Outreach Award for 2009 as well as USAFA's Instructor of the Semester for lifetime sports.
