
Air Force Opens Action at Conference Tournament

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Air Force golf team wrapped up the first day of action at the 2015 Mountain West Championships this afternoon (May 1) at OMNI Tucson National in Arizona. Shooting a 296 (+12) over the first 18 holes, the Falcons are currently in 11th - but just three strokes out of sixth in a tightly packed field.
Backed by three birdies - including two on the final four holes - freshman Sutton Farmer leads the Falcons after the opening round, carding a one-over par score of 72 to tie for 18th. Sophomore Sunwoo Choi is tied for 32nd with a three-over 74, while senior Blake Edwards and freshman Todd Millard are tied for 35th with matching first-round scores of 75 (four over). Junior Michael Fan rounded out the Falcons' lineup with a five-over par score of 76 (45th, tie).
UNLV, ranked 31st in the Golfstat standings, currently leads the field after the first round of action with an 11-under par tally of 273. The Rebels' roster also features the individual leader, as Kurt Kitayama shot a six-under 65 to hold a one-stroke advantage over the rest of the field.
In the team standings, Nevada and No. 32 San Diego State are tied for second (208, four under), while 22nd-ranked New Mexico and Colorado State are listed fourth (282, two under) and fifth (287, three over), respectively, to round out the top five. Just three strokes separate the final six teams, as San Jose State and Fresno State are tied for sixth (293, nine over), Utah State, Wyoming and Boise State are tied for eighth (296, 11 over) and Air Force is 11th (296, 12 over).
Air Force returns to action tomorrow (May 2) for the second round of 18 on the Catalina Course of OMNI Tucson National. The first golfers will tee-off at 7:00 a.m.
